It can get lonely out in the darkness of space, especially if you’re a character in a book that hasn’t even been published yet. As part of a multi-author Valentine’s Day blog crossover, I’ve written dating profiles for the main characters of my upcoming novel Belt Three.

Can Jonas or Keldra find love in another book? Feel free to suggest in the comments if there’s a character from one of the other authors’ books that you think would make a good match for them. I’m not doing a giveaway, but some of the other authors are, so head to their blogs (listed below) if you’re interested in free stuff.

Jonas

Age: 33

What is your job/career?

Head of the Belt Three branch of my family’s asteroid-mining company, and captain of the company’s mining hauler Coriolis Dancer.

Where are you from?

Athens, Belt Three.

What do you do for fun?

Read, listen to music, play interactive stories.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

Keeping my company competitive without resorting to using black-market servitors. I’d like to avoid using servitors entirely but so far that hasn’t been possible.

What is your most treasured possession?

An egg-shaped chrome incense burner, which once belonged to someone very special.

If you were an animal, which one would you be?

A dog. I saw a recreation of one in a museum; the sign said that on Earth, people used to keep them as pets. I like the idea of an animal that lives around people.

Have you ever been in a fight? or prison?

Not since I was a child. I try to talk my way out of hostile situations rather than resorting to violence.

If you won the lottery, which 2 charities would you give to?

A cloning debt relief fund to help tank-borns avoid being mind-wiped just because they’re poor, and a confidential listening charity for people who are going through tough times.

What is your ideal home?

A starscraper apartment in a Belt Three city, close to the bottom for good gravity, with a view of a great water-sculpture in the atrium.

What is your perfect date night/day?

Dinner in a good restaurant and then an evening at the theatre – but one with real actors, not servitors running a theatre program, and certainly not a gladiatorial match.

What are you most afraid of?

Having to travel without an escort ship and being ambushed by pirates.

Keldra

Age: 29

What is your job/career?

Independent freighter captain. I run a legitimate business and those missile launchers I’ve added to my ship are strictly for defence.

Where are you from?

Pandora, Belt Three.

What do you do for fun?

Paint. Upgrade my ship. Hunt Worldbreakers.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?

I’ve destroyed five Worldbreakers. Blew them up with nukes. Yes, it’s possible. Fuck you if you don’t believe me.

What is your most treasured possession?

My ship, the Remembrance of Clouds.

If you were an animal, which one would you be?

Some kind of bird. Maybe a seagull.

Have you ever been in a fight? or prison?

Sure I’ve been in fights. A few people have tried to steal from me. No one has done it twice. As for prison, I’d have to lose a fight first.

If you won the lottery, which 2 charities would you give to?

Fuck charity, I’d use it to upgrade my ship. Oh all right. A society for the preservation of Earth artefacts, and an education charity to give people a better knowledge of history.

What is your ideal home?

Earth.

What is your perfect date night/day?

I’m only in port for a few days before I hit the orbits again, so I’m not looking to become attached. Take me to a bar that’s not too loud and not fancy, not one of those stuck-up places where everyone’s drinking 50-credit cocktails and playing at being a true-born. If you’re not wasting my time maybe we can take it back to my ship.

What are you most afraid of?

Death.

I paired Keldra and Tomas Caraway.

They both seem to like the bar scene. Keldra seems rather serious, so I think she would want someone who is able to hold their own. Tomas has no job at the moment. He would have no roots to keep him from travelling. It actually seems he would want to escape from his past.
